Book Club Event : Think Again

We're excited to announce our first book club meeting of 2022! Over the course of the next year, we will hold quarterly book club meetings to discuss trending topics that affect the change management space. We'll highlight key takeaways and discus how to apply them to past projects while also discussing ways in which we can apply them in the future.

Our new book club will hold our first meeting on August 26th where we'll discuss Adam Grant's newest book, Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know. Lauded by other well-known authors like Brene Brown and Daniel Kahneman, Think Again explores the relatively new topic of unlearning and rethinking as a way to promote a culture of learning at work and at home.

Join us!

"The bestselling author of Give and Take and Originals examines the critical art of rethinking: learning how to question your opinions and open others people's minds, which can position you for excellence in work and life"

The book is divided into three parts:

1) Individual Rethinking

2) Interpersonal Rethinking

3) Collective Rethinking

Key takeaways:

1) Think like a scientist - treat your views as hypotheses, not facts

2) Embrace the joy of being wrong - it means you learned something new

3) Seek out those who challenge your views and leverage task conflict for learning

4) Recognize that contentious topics are complex and discuss as such

5) Establish psychological safety through leaders who lead by example

Application from a change management perspective:

How can we as change practitioners convince our clients to rethink their normal process? For example, how do we address our own previously held beliefs as individuals while also leveraging constructive conflict in teams as we build cultures of learning at work?

Overcome the barrier of  "This is the way we've always done it." A good portion of this book is focused on questioning previously held beliefs like this whether it's at the individual, team, or org level. Ultimately by questioning these assumptions, one will be able to do better in life and at work.
